His name is Yomi Makun, the CEO of Yomi Casual. He didn’t plan to be a celebrity fashion designer. He wanted to be a painter on the streets of Warri in Delta State. However, his elder mistakenly pointed him in the direction of becoming a fashion designer when she filled his Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Form, a Nigerian tertiary-level institutions entrance examination he was meant to write. He accepted his fate and went to Auchi Polytechnic where one of his lecturers saw a distinct creativity in him. It was in this Polytechnic that an incident strengthened his desire to be a fashion designer.

After graduation, he was back on the street in Warri where he was earning peanuts as a local fashion designer. However, his elder brother, AY, the famous comedian, would later advise him to relocate to Lagos where he gradually climbed the social ladder until he became a popular celebrity fashion designer.

In this interview, Yomi Makun, the CEO of Yomi Casual, the affordable luxury brand, speaks on his tough and humble beginning and how hard work and consistent turned a local fashion designer into a celebrity.
