Issue 29

A disruptor is a person or thing that interrupts a process or causes a radical change in an existing industry or market through creativity and innovation. The world of business has witnessed many disruptions from different disruptors.  The computer industry witnessed disruptions from university dropouts, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Aviation and entertainment witnessed the eccentric charisma of Rebel Billionaire, Richard Branson. Automobiles and space exploration witnessed the genius of Elon Musk. And telecommunications in Africa witnessed the massive impact of visionaries, Mo Ibrahim and Strive Masiyiwa. Bolaji Okusaga, the Founder and CEO of Precise, a reputation design company is yet another disruptor. A disruptor of this new age.

Bolaji Okusaga attended Obafemi Awolowo University where he graduated as the best student in Dramatic Arts, winning the Wole Soyinka Prize and Professor Michael Crowder Award. His dream was to write poetry and plays. But he ended up in a bank, Marina International Bank, where he fiddled with boring numbers. Although he was doing well in the banking industry, he realized he wasn’t fulfilled. He wanted to be a major player in an industry that would challenge his creativity and give him an opportunity to be innovative. So, he left banking and took over as the Managing Director of Quadrant Company, a company that was struggling at that time. He would later drive growth, through innovation, turning Quadrant into one of Nigeria’s most sought after public relations firms, winning the prestigious Silver Award. At the peak of his career, Bolaji Okusaga left Quadrant with one intention—to start his own business where he could think outside the box as a new age disruptor. In a one-on-one interview, we delved deep into the mind of Bolaji Okusaga as he responded to questions that will help you as an entrepreneur navigate through the tough business terrains of Africa.
