Starting a business is quite a task. That is nothing compare to recruiting the right kind of people for the business. Another thing you may need to deal with is how to keep your staff motivated. If you don’t learn how to keep them motivated, trust me, soon you will be shopping for new set of employees. Keeping your employees motivated is very important. If you do, they will increase their performance that will directly influence the business productivity and that will eventually increase the revenue of the business. However, most business owners are yet to understand how to motivate their staff. Here are the things you should do:
Published September 17th. 2022
Create
a spectacular office environment: You may not know, but
most employees are motivated when the office environment aesthetics is
inspiring. The exterior and the interior of your office must be exceptionally
good. Create an environment that is warm and accommodating for your employees;
an environment that will make them feel proud to wake up and come to the office
every morning. Get a professional interior designer to help you create that
amazing feel that will inspire your employees.
Be
a servant-leader: Don’t be a CEO that will tell people
what to do; be that CEO that will lead by example. If the resumption time is
9am, you have to be at the office before that time. Be the first to be at the
office and the last to leave. Also be very supportive; create room for your
employees to grow. Engage in whatever tasks you need them to do, but create
room for them to express themselves. Don’t be the CEO that issues command, be
the one that would rather discuss with them in a meeting, asking for their
opinions.
Recognize
and reward achievements: Despite the fact that you have to
use the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to check their performance, learn to
recognize achievements. Create a wall where the portrait photo of the best
staff in every month should be. That will inspire others to actively play their
role to earn such honor. Also create incentives that compliment achievements.
It could be anything or cash reward.
Be
interested in their welfare: Yes, we have some
employees with too much baggage; you must know where to draw the line. However,
you have to be concerned about their welfare. Learn to be the mother hen over
them. They are all your chicks and need your advice, counseling and financial
support in whatever capacity you can render it. Have regular discussion with
them. Not together, but individually.
Offer
snacks, coffee and lunch: This is important if you want them
to be as productive as the business requires. Like Shakira said “a hungry child
cannot learn”. Also, a hungry employee cannot perform at his or her peak.
Provide light breakfast and lunch for them. You will surprise how their
performance will skyrocket.
Be
transparent: Nothing kills a business faster than a
CEO who is not honest. Be honest in every way with your employees. Give them
the true picture and situation of things. Communicate the vision of the
organization and how you want them to be part of it. Let them know how the
business is doing at every giving point in time. That way, your staff will love
you for life.
