I was probably twelve when I first saw a blueprint; it’s an architectural design of a proposed building. It makes no sense to me back then until many years after. I came to understand that a blueprint is a technical drawing introduced in the 19th century used in construction. The purpose of the blueprint is to show you the structural design of a building before laying a single block. It is like a tool needed to visualize a building before laying the foundation.

Now, it makes more
sense looking at the definition of a blueprint from a different perspective. A blueprint
is a guide to making something. It is a design that can be followed when
creating anything. It is no longer a distinct terminology for architects; it is
now a common slang, mostly used in the business world.
Just what is a
blueprint in the business terrain? It is simply your business plan. Q.E.D.
A lot of entrepreneurs
sees business plan as a complicated or complex document that is required to
raise capital when starting or expanding a business. This definition isn’t
wrong; but that is not the primary purpose of a business plan.
A business plan is a
written universally acceptable document of facts and figures required by an
entrepreneur to start, manage and grow his or her business. From that
definition, the first person that needs a business plan is the entrepreneur
because it is like your road map to move your business from point A to B.
If you don’t have a
business plan, you are like a pirate seeking a treasure in an unknown island.
The Atlantic is all yours to sail, but without a map, you will be lost at sea. Lost,
perhaps, forever. So, without a blueprint—business plan—you will be shooting
your darts in different directions without hitting the bull’s eye. Your
business plan is your compass; it will point you in the right direction that you
want your business to go.
Secondly, your business
plan is required to help you raise fund from investors from any part of the
world for your business. What this simply means is that for anyone who isn’t
foolish to invest in your business, such will request for business plan.
Now, let demystify this
stuff called business plan. Yea, it is a complex document that sometimes requires
the assistance of business consultant, but you must learn to do it yourself if
you understand the primary purpose of a business plan. Nobody can create your
business road map like yourself. So, this is what you have to do:
Step One: Google it. I
hate it when I advertise a brand for free, but for heaven sake, Google what
business plan is all about and devour the information that will pop out like
you are having your favorite delicacy. Read about business plan. Read
everything you can see about it because you definitely cannot pen down what you
don’t know about.
Step Two: Get yourself
a notepad and outline all the subtitles that your business plan must contain.
Write out from your executive summary, to company description, to industry
description, to product description, to marketing plan, to management team, to
financial projection and even appendix.
Step Three: Download
the Build Your Business in 60 Days Template from BusinessIQ platform in the
books section. Then sit down and just fill in the blank spaces, in your own
terminologies, like you are putting together a puzzle. The template is so
simplified that even your ten years old son can fill in the blank. So, all you
need to do is to just fill in the blank. Once you have done this, what you have
in your hands is a typical business plan suitable enough for you to successfully
run your business.
If you need to be more
professional or you need it for the secondary purpose—to raise capital—then you
need to find yourself a business consultant that will help you polish what you
have written.
Good luck!
